Yacht Club Games has finally announced the release date for their highly anticipated Shovel Knight Amiibo, and has also provided a detailed trailer highlighting its significance.

The Shovel Knight Amiibo will unlock a ton of new content for current "Shovel Knight" players, such as a brand-new cooperative mode, customization, and Challenge mode stages. In co-op mode, players are able to play through entire campaigns together, as well as a number of challenge modes.

North Americans can expect to see the Amiibo in stores on Jan. 8 for $12.99, however those in Europe can expect an earlier release of Dec. 11 for 14.99 EUR/10.99 GBP. Yacht Club Games explains this decision to be their only viable method to forego production issues.

"[P]roduction difficulties forced us to choose between rushing to ship a tiny, insufficient number of Amiibo units before Christmas, or ship a good healthy supply of stock to North America just after Christmas," Yacht Club explained in a blog post. "We've received hundreds of emails bemoaning the difficulty in finding some of your favorite Amiibo, racing for a preorder window, issues with scalpers, having trouble unlocking the new features you want to play; so, we made the decision to launch the Amiibo in January so there would be enough units available."

Yacht Club Games also recommends those to avoid trying to purchase a figure outside of your country, as it won't actually work with your game until its released in your region.

The Shovel Knight Amiibo works with both Wii U and 3DS, however the co-op mode is only available on the Wii U. Yacht Club Games hope to continue the support of The Shovel Knight Amiibo in future games.
