Square Enix has revealed that "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" will include the famous Cloud cross-dressing scene from the original 1997 game.

The Japanese gaming studio is no stranger to fan backlash as it has been open about altering key components of "Final Fantasy 7." This time, the company appears to have learned from its mistakes as game director Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that the iconic moment will be retained.

In a recent discourse with Famitsu, as translated by Siliconera, Nomura nodded yes when asked if the cross-dressing scene will appear in the game. However, he pointed out that the design is still in the works.

Given the fact that Cloud has never cross-dressed in a full motion video, developers have ample wiggle room to get creative with the design. In the original game, a short quest came before the cross-dressing scene, which determined how appealing Cloud would be to the local crime lord.

It can be remembered that there were several variants of Cloud's attire and make-up. "Remake" could eventually feature multiple designs for Cloud, depending on how well the player executes the prior quest.

Even though the scene has been confirmed, that doesn't mean it won't be altered in some sort of way. It wouldn't be a big surprise if Square Enix changes the story a bit. While the cross-dressing scene in the original game was mostly light-hearted, there were a few moments inside the brothel that were quite lewd.

With regards to other changes, Nomura previously indicated that the game's combat and exploration mechanics have been modified.

"We're not going to be changing it into a shooter or something like that," Nomura told the Official PlayStation Magazine via GamesRadar. "We are going to be bringing dramatic changes, but we want to make sure it's still recognizable."

Nomura also said the "Final Fantasy 7" companion movie he directed in 2005, entitled "Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children," served as one of the studio's inspiration in designing the game's graphics. Although, he clarified that Square Enix did not completely copy the 3D models of "Advent Children" since the technology it used has become out-dated.

The latest "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" trailer was just unveiled last week during PSX 2015. It showed how impressive the game promises to be. That said, Square Enix said the game will be a multi-part series, which will incorporate all of the original storyline. This may not be what fans have hoped for, but there's still a fair amount of optimism surrounding the studio's knack for developing enjoyable games.

"Final Fantasy 7 Remake" will be a timed-exclusive for the PlayStation 4 when it releases. Its exact launch date is yet to be determined.
