Max Payne could be making a comeback. The game has been rated by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) for the PlayStation 4.

Max Payne originally appeared on the PlayStation 2, but now there is a rating for it on the ESRB website, showing it being available for the PlayStation 4, Games Radar reports.

When the ESRB posts a listing for a game, they are rarely inaccurate. This points to a more than probable release of Max Payne on the PlayStation 4.

Max Payne first appeared on the PlayStation 2 back in 2001. It was one of the more popular games on the console, and it introduced bullet-time speeds.

Sony has already confirmed that the PlayStation 4 will be able to play PlayStation 2 games. Sony just released the list of the first batch of Playstation 2 games that will be available for play on the PlayStation 4.

The list includes three Rockstar Games titles, all Grand Theft Auto games. When Max Payne was created for the PlayStation 2, Rockstar Games was its publisher. It would make sense that Rockstar gets another title on the list.

Other games that will be released in this first batch are Dark Cloud, Rogue Galaxy, The Mark of Kri, Twisted Metal: Black and War of the Monsters.

In order to play the old PlayStation 2 games, players will still have to purchase the discs for the PlayStation 4. The games will be remastered and offered at 60 frames per second so the old PlayStation 2 discs will not work for the PlayStation 4 unfortunately.

Sony plans to release Parappa the Rapper 2 and The King of Fighters 200 in the future.

Microsoft announced earlier this year that the Xbox One would be able to play Xbox 360 games through backwards compatibility. Sony was not expected to introduce this feature, but it looks like they will try to do so.
