The digital streaming market is about to get revolutionized when Netflix unveils its new technology for Internet providers and subscribers.

According to Variety, this technology will not only improve the quality of the users video stream but will also reduce the bandwidth. This in effect will unclog the highly congested Internet networks that will mostly be streaming Netflix during peak usage times on local and regional infrastructures.

There is no doubt that Netflix, who provides a streaming buffet of options to its subscribers, is the biggest company in the video streaming buffet market. They are responsible for approximately 37 percent (per Sandvine) of all Internet traffic during these peak times of day that most people are using the web.

So it is incumbent upon them to make every effort to reduce the amount of bandwidth used by implementing this new technology. It in effect will open up more room and less congestion so that users will experience less buffering and loss of video quality.

This enormous project by Netflix is something that will require a lot of legwork on their own end. This is not just something that they put online for their own servers. They will actually have to go back into their own library and re-encode each and every file of video content so that it is compatible with the new technology.

Although the company does not divulge how much content they currently have, it is safe to assume that number has six digits in it. So implementing this new technology could come with a painful period of taking certain videos offline to encode them, then making them available again. But they have said that they are looking for a more efficient way to undergo the process and make it as painless as possible.

They are also looking to the future as new technology rolls in outside their own doors. This includes the onslaught of 4K resolution, which will eventually be making its way into the video streaming world as a common format.
