The New York Mets and Bartolo Colon are going to give it another year.

According to The New York Times, the Mets will re-sign the Dominican born pitcher to a one-year deal. Colon is now 42 years old, and the Mets have one of the best pitching staffs in all of Major League Baseball. The exact contract amount is believed to be $7.25 million.

Colon may very well be over 40 years old, but he gave the Mets 14 wins last season. Having Colon pitch gives the Mets depth on the roster outside of Jacob deGrom and Matt Harvey. Colon and deGrom each won 14 games last season on the Mets.

Colon currently sits at 218 career victories. That's significant because it is the third-most wins in MLB history by a Dominican-born pitcher. Only Manny Ramirez at 219 and Juan Marichal at 243 have more all-time victories by a Dominican pitcher. Colon also ranks third in strikeouts all-time by a Dominican pitcher behind only Marichal and Ramirez. His most memorable season came in 2005 when he won the American League Cy Young award with the Los Angeles Angels.

The best thing Colon has shown throughout his career is endurance and adaptability. Despite playing for nine teams since the 1990s, Colon has usually shown a strong will to be able to adapt to a new environment. Colon has pitched for both the American and National League, and fans love to watch him at the plate try and hit. Colon has also been willing to pitch in relief, which is what we may see more of in 2016.

Colon has never won a World Series before, but this upcoming season could be one of his best opportunities to do so.
