Rumors about a Battlestar Galactica movie have been going on for a while. Universal has finally confirmed that it commissioned screenwriter Jack Paglen to write the script for the movie during the filming of the TV series. Variety also reported that Johnny Depp will lead the cast of the Battlestar Galactica movie. Producing the movie is Glen Larson, the series' creator. Variety further reported that the movie will entirely be a "reimagining" of the story.

The TV series Battlestar Galactica was first shown in 1978 featuring Lorne Greene, Dirk Benedict and Richard Hatch as lead stars that lasted for one year. It was re-launched in 2003 and had four seasons with Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell as lead stars and Ron Moore as writer. Both series had the same idea but the theme and tone are different. The 2003 series of Moore's delved into profound subjects such as religion and politics, driving the viewers into deep thoughts that were appropriate for the modern age.

As the movie is said to be an entire reimagining of the original tale, we have no way of knowing what will happen or what to expect. While some television viewers are enthusiastic to see more of the universe, a few are quite doubtful as to what the Battlestar Galactica movie will have to offer that has not been presented in the television series.

Others are hopeful that the film will be more interesting and have more action, especially since it is being written by Paglen, who is known for his sci-fi movies. One thing is for sure though, and that is that we will still see humans fighting against robots.

Universal has not announced the exact release date and final casting of Battlestar Galactica the movie. Whether it will be shown in the latter part of 2015 or early 2016 remains to be seen. Fans of the TV series can only hope that filming will start soon while others hope to really see a different Battlestar Galactica in the movie.
