"XCOM 2" game director Jake Solomon has downplayed rumors suggesting that  key plot points in the upcoming title will be released as DLCs.

Solomon told GameSpot that the game's DLCs would not be cut content. He said that Firaxis Games doesn't work on expansion packs unless the main narrative of the base game has been finished.

In keeping up with modern trends, publisher 2K Games announced this week that "XCOM 2" will have three DLCs. However, the developer only offered an outline of these expansion packs on the game's official website. The added content can be pre-purchased via a $20 season pass or a $75 Digital Deluxe Edition of the game, which includes the "XCOM 2" soundtrack and the Reinforcement Pack.

Naturally, some fans responded negatively to the release's setup, accusing Firaxis and 2K of leaving out some parts of the base game in order to sell it later for extra cash.

"I understand the concern, but I feel totally comfortable engaging in that conversation," said Solomon. "We're not holding anything back. We have a lot of content to make for DLC, but we won't start on it until we make the core game."

For those wondering, the DLCs and their corresponding release windows are listed below.

"XCOM 2" Reinforcement Pack Content

  • Anarchy's Children: Includes rebellion-themed gameplay with more dramatic soldier customizations. Available in Spring 2016.
  • Alien Hunters: Introduces new content concentrating on "XCOM" as an elite alien hunting corps tracking down "Ruler" aliens. There's one new mission, more soldier customizations and powerful weapons. Available in Summer 2016.
  • Shen's Last Gift: Featuring a new soldier class with exclusive upgradeable weapons, armor, customizations and a bonus narrative-based mission. Available in Summer 2016.

The Reinforcement Pack is sold separately at $20. The Deluxe Edition will save gamers $5, given the fact that the base game costs $60.

2K also announced that "XCOM" fans who pre-purchased the franchise's latest sequel or its Digital Deluxe Edition will be given the Resistance Warrior DLC. This package consists of exclusive soldier modification options like outfits, headpieces, facial war paint as well as a new recruit character called the Survivor of the Old War.

"XCOM 2" will be a PC-exclusive when it launches on Feb. 5, 2016. Firaxis and 2K have yet to announce if the game will make its way on current-generation consoles.

The last "XCOM" game developed by Firaxis came with small DLC packs, but the majority of its post-releases arrived in the form of a paid and comprehensive expansion known as "Enemy Within."
