Caitlyn Jenner was named the "most fascinating person" of 2015 by Barbara Walters during her annual ABC special, which aired on Thursday night.

The 66-year-old reality television star, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, topped the list of fascinating people and beat out some worthy contenders, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Other noteworthy names to earn a spot on the list included Amy Schumer, Bradley Cooper, Tracy Morgan, Misty Copeland, Bernie Sanders, Donna Karan, Ronda Rousey, Jeff Bezos and Donald Trump. However, none of them could compete with Jenner.

"If you found yourself unable to take your eyes of Caitlyn Jenner this year, you weren't alone," Walters said. "Through her own transformation, [she] transformed society this year and that, for us, makes her the most fascinating person of 2015."

Walters recognized Jenner for her bravery in coming out as transgender, speaking publicly about her transition from man to woman, and for serving as a positive influential figure in the transgender community.

"She became a champion for people who had long been pushed to the margins of society," Walters said.

Bruce Jenner first came out as Caitlyn Jenner during a 20/20 interview with Diane Sawyer in April. This interview garnered over 20 million viewers.

Past top honorees of the "most fascinating person" list include Jackie Onassis, Princess Diana, Hillary Clinton and Amal Clooney.

Jenner married Kris Jenner in 1991 and they had two children, Kendall and Kylie, together. The pair announced their separation in October 2013. Their divorce was finalized in December 2014, although it came into effect on March 23, 2015, due to a six-month state legal requirement.

The reality television star appeared on "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" since 2007 and now has her own show on the E! network called "I Am Cait," the second season of which starts in 2016.
