Those who are craving even more customization options in Nintendo's Super Mario Maker are in luck, as game director Yosuke Oshino has recently revealed some of the upcoming features of the December update.

In this update, players can expect to see new items that will further the development capabilities of the levels. One of the first items he introduced was the fire-spitting Koopa Clown Car, something longtime Mario fans will instantly recognize.

"There haven't been any shooter game-like elements in the Mario series to-date," Oshino explained to IGN. This vehicle will surely add new depth to the levels players are building.

The next item on the agenda is the new "Bumper," designed to bounce players in a specified direction upon impact.

"We added this item to further expand the jump mechanics of the game," he said. "We hope that players will create thrilling, maybe even nail-biting courses filled with jumps."

What was next presented was the addition of doors that only exist as outlines without the use of a P Switch. Oshino described this update to have been highly debatable.

"We really struggled with this decision right up until the very end," he stated. "For the people making the courses, not having the outline would be best."

The main goal for Super Mario Maker is to present players with the maximum amount of customization options.

Players in the U.S. can expect this update as soon as Dec. 21, while Europe will receive it the day after.

Apart from this update, two new Earthbound-themed costume skins were released for use in the game. Players can now play through levels as Mr. Saturn and Master Belch, and are available only after completing a new Event Course.
