The nominees for the 2014 MTV Movie Awards have already been released, and the awards night is set to take place on April 13, 2014. For this year, the list of nominees includes several of the big blockbuster movies along with powerhouses from other award shows. The most heavily favored movies to win are Wolf of Wall Street and American Hustle. These movies have amassed huge successes from the box office and have also received awards on Oscar night. The blockbuster movie Hunger Games: Catching Fire was also nominated in several categories for the MTV awards, despite the fact that it did not really do well at other award shows. The MTV Movie Awards are unique in the sense that the winners are not decided by a panel of judges but by a popular vote of the viewers.

For the best movie of the year, Oscar-winning film 12 Years a Slave is still dubbed as a frontrunner. However, other movies such as the Hunger Games, The Hobbit and American Hustle are more likely to win the award because their blockbuster success makes it a lot easier for them to translate the support votes. Jennifer Lawrence will most likely win for her performance in Hunger Games, but Amy Adams and Sandra Bullock could take the spot away from her for their performances in American Hustle and Gravity respectively. Lupita Nyong'o, although a supporting actress, will still pose a challenge to these big ticket lead actresses and could possibly pull an upset, especially after her recent Hollywood breakthrough.

For the male performance category, people will want to see Leonardo DiCaprio finally avenge himself after losing at the Academy Awards. However, with his biggest rivals Matthew McConaughey and Bradley Cooper being also nominated, he might go home empty handed again. Josh Hutcherson is most likely to pull an upset for his successful on-screen partnership with J-Law in the Hunger Games.

Aside from the mainstream awards, there are other unconventional awards to be given out as well, such as the Best Kiss, Best Fight, Best Shirtless Performance, Most WTF Moment, and many more.
