Though the most recent next-gen console war has just begun between Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4, it would seem that Sony is pulling ahead of the competition in terms of development and fans after an already early lead in sales.

Though Microsoft started to pick up steam as Xbox One sales began picking up, a few game developers have voiced their opinions that Sony's PS4 has a better image quality and performance than Microsoft's console.

Gamespot reported that Ubisoft's cinematic animation lead Lars Bonde said, in a recent interview with PC Games, that the company is developing its newest game Watch Dogs with 1080p resolution on PS4 while it run on something less for the Xbox One version.

"The first thing I want to make clear is that, at its core, it's the same experience on current-gen and next-gen consoles. You get the same gameplay out of it," Bonde said. "Of course there are nuances to it. We are utilizing Xbox One to its full capabilities and the same with PS4, of course, so I know that, as far as my knowledge, on PS4 it will in full HD."

Additionally, BGR reported Oddworld Inhabitants co-founder Lorne Lanning said last month that Xbox One's graphics performance would improve substantially with the release of Microsoft's DirectX 12 drivers.

However, Just Add Water Chief Executive Officer Stewart Gilray told Worlds Factory that Lanning was misunderstood.

"Actually that is not what he said," Gilray claimed. "I spoke to Lorne afterwards and what he meant when speaking to that guy was that budgets, schedules and perceivable differences would narrow, not that the Xbox One performance is improving to align with PS4, that is just physically impossible. The PS4 has more compute units and faster memory and whole bunch of things that would make that physically impossible to happen."
