There is no shortage of villains when it comes to a "Ghostbusters" movie, and now the remake has let fans know who -- or what -- they can expect in the newest film.

According to Entertainment Weekly, putting a bad guy in a paranormal comedy like "Ghostbusters" is kind of like picking names out of a hat, especially if it is set in New York. Not only does the city offer a whole host of villains to choose from, its history also includes a nefarious cast not limited to the modern era.

The new film will take advantage of New York's storied past by picking a few villains from many different eras. While fans could daydream endlessly about all the possible different characters filmmakers could bring to the screen as ghosts, director Paul Feig has already weighed in and announced the villains the crew have decided to feature.

Feig has gone deep into the underbelly of the city and chosen from a host of old villains. Some were not only true to the location, but have long been featured in old city folklore. Fans can expect some dangerous gangster types from different eras, like Prohibition, the Baby Boom and the sultry '70s.

Zipping back a little further in time, the film will also feature some visits from the Pilgrims, 19th- and 20th-Century sailors, soldiers from the Revolutionary War and many more.

Although these spirits will be visiting the girls in their daily ghost-busting activities, they are also likely run into the classic ectoplasmic ghosts of the original movie, and there could also be a visit from everyone's favorite ghost: Slimer.

Since Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy joined the cast earlier this year, there is good reason to believe that the movie will follow in the footsteps of the original, rooted in an "SNL" comedy style. It will likely be a big box-office score for comedy and action in a family setting, and it will no doubt reach out to the hearts of millions.

Look for it on July 15, 2016.
