Lionsgate is taking a familiar page out of its successful movie franchise book and has decided to split Allegiant, the final book in the Divergent series, into two separate films.

Here's what the entertainment corporation had to say about the Allegiant split in a recent statement:

"Veronica Roth brings her captivating story to a masterful conclusion in Allegiant, a rich, action-packed book with material that is ideally suited to two strong and fulfilling movies. The storytelling arc and world of the characters lend themselves perfectly to two films, a storytelling strategy that has worked very well for us on the two Twilight Breaking Dawn films and about which we're tremendously enthusiastic for the two upcoming Mockingjay films of The Hunger Games franchise."

According to the Lionsgate press release, The Hunger Games and Twilight Saga franchises collectively grossed over $5 billion at the box office. The first installment of the Divergent series is already off to a great start.

On its opening weekend in March, Divergent made $54 million, and in three weeks it culminated a grand total of $117 million. Its international rollout began about a week ago, and it has already managed to score $22 million.

The Divergent movies are expected to open every March, while The Hunger Games installments are set to premiere every November.

"Assuming the movie works as we expect, we like the idea of a Divergent film every March to complement our Hunger Games films every November," said Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns to Variety.

Filming for the second installment, Insurgent, is set to begin in May and will shoot in Atlanta under new direction. Neil Burger, the director of the first Divergent movie has opted out of the second installment due to tight scheduling. Red director Robert Schwentke will be taking Burger's place.
