As 2015 is about to end, many are still wondering where on Earth is Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman? The notorious drug cartel boss remains at large after he broke out from the maximum security jail in Mexico in July. And despite the massive and extensive manhunt operations, the authorities have failed to recapture the world's most powerful and deadly drug trafficking operations kingpin, who is said to be hiding in Sinaloa.

The whole world was baffled when reports circulated that El Chapo had escaped from Altiplano maximum prison, which is located west of Mexico City. His escape was dubbed as the "jailbreak of the millennium." At the time, reports said that the fugitive drug lord crawled through a hole and disappeared through a mile-long tunnel, which was reportedly built just for him.

Today, El Chapo's hometown remains under siege as the drug war continues. According to teleSURTV, the armed confrontations have already killed about 14 people. Earlier this month, an armed commando ambushed a vehicle, where two people had died including the nephew of El Chapo's closest associate, Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada.

There was also a major gunfight that has occurred on Dec. 26 between the Mexican authorities and the Sinaloa drug traffickers in El Chapo's hometown of Badiraguato. Breitbart reported two cartel attackers were killed while four-and-a-half tons of marijuana, along with some firearms and ammunitions, were seized. The gunfight happened Dec. 12 massacre. Despite the attack, the military aircraft only sustained some minor damages.

While the federal attorney general's office has already seized the ranch of El Chapo's brother, Aurelio Guzman, the Mexican government remains under scrutiny over their determination to recapture the drug cartel boss, who has managed to evade massive military operation. There were also reports claiming that he had fallen off a cliff, injuring his face and leg before disappearing in the wilderness. But the authorities have clarified that El Chapo and his gunmen managed to escape by riding in all-terrain vehicles.

Meanwhile, the Mexican authorities have been fervently hunting for El Chapo since his escape from maximum prison in July, which was only 16 months after being recaptured in the Mexican resort city of Mazatlan. And since his jailbreak, rumors about El Chapo's whereabouts have increased, placing him in Costa Rica, Brazil and Spain. Several weeks ago, news reports claimed that a vehicle transporting his daughter's pet monkey was stopped en route from Mexico City to Sinaloa state.

As the authorities were provided with clues to his possible location, all airports have been on high alert for signs of El Chapo. Unfortunately, due to high levels of corruption among security forces in Mexico, there have been doubts about the nation's ability to recapture El Chapo.
