Rapper and VH1 Reality TV star Flavor Flav plead guilty to misdemeanor domestic violence charges in the case involving his longtime girlfriend's teenage son.

Flav was initially charged with child abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, and battery domestic violence, but prosecutors agreed to reduce the charges to two misdemeanor counts.

By pleading guilty, Flavor Flav, whose biological name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., was able to avoid felony charges and up to twelve years in prison.

Now, Drayton is required to stay out of trouble during a year of probation and attend 12 domestic counseling sessions with his longtime girlfriend's son, CNN reports.

So how did this all start?

In October 2012, Drayton and his girlfriend's son got into an argument at his home in Las Vegas.  Drayton acknowledged in court that he wielded a kitchen knife towards the teen.

As the argument escalated, Drayton reportedly threatened to kill the boy, chased him to a bedroom, and as the boy was locked himself inside the bedroom, Drayton stabbed the kitchen knife through the door.

Prior to the plea deal on Monday, Drayton, his girlfriend, and her son have already started counseling. "I love my son and my son loves me too. And that's the most important thing," The Flavor of Love star said during the brief hearing.

William Jonathan Drayton Jr., better known as Flavor Flav, rose to fame with the legendary hip-hop group, Public Enemy. Flav is known for wearing his enormous clock chain, his flamboyant personality, and for yelling his coined phrases "Yeah boy!" and "Flavor Flav!" during performances.

In addition to his music, Flav has also starred in numerous VH1 reality shows such as the Flavor of Love series, Strange Love, and The Surreal Life. His most recent reality TV appearance was on season 3 of VH1's Couples Therapy where Flav and his long time girlfriend Liz Trujillo sought out to save their troubled relationship.
