There is reason to believe that not only did Clarke fall into a deep depression after the season 2 finale of "The 100," but she could also be on the edge of insanity.

According to Entertainment Weekly, season 3 of the show has been a much-anticipated event that fans have been waiting a very long time to see. The season 2 finale ended when Clarke committed a near genocide on Mount Weather.

She abandoned the Sky People after the incident and went off on her own. When season 3 opens up, she will have officially been in isolation now for several months and her depression has morphed into a new area of mental distress. She has severe guilt over what she had to do, even if it was for the greater good. She could not deal with the fallout of her decision and the guilt has been eating her alive.

Showrunner Jason Rothenberg has already disclosed that she will have a new love interest on the show, after she befriends a woman who works at a trade post. That situation will also get polarized by a her eventual capture, considering she has become a woman of legend at this point, leading many factions out to find her and bring her in for one reason or another.

This could also get complicated by the reappearance of Lexa (Alycia Debnam-Carey). The spiraling love triangle between the two and Bellamy, now adding in the new woman, could lead all of them to eventual tragedies.

But the real tragedy of season 3, at least in the beginning, is going to be Clarke's descent into depression and her inability to cope. That is where her new love interest will come in and in some way, help guide her out of the darkness that is now her life.

Fans of the show should be sure to tune into the CW on Jan. 21 at 9 p.m. EST to see the first episode of season 3.
