Xiaomi has rolled out the global stable version of the MIUI 7.1 OS. The Chinese OEM has also announced which of its devices will be receiving the firmware update.

According to the official MIUI website, Xiaomi's latest software build will be arriving on the Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi Note, Mi 4i, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 2 Prime, Redmi 1S, Redmi Note Prime, Redmi Note 2, Redmi Note 3G, Mi Pad and Mi Pad 2.

Owners of the aforementioned handsets can now download MIUI 7.1 from the MIUI forum thread. The firmware update has also been made available for the Mi 2 and its updated variant the Mi 2S.

Some of its key changes include the following:

  •  File Explorer supports hidden folders
  •  New 'Doodle' tool added for image editing in Gallery
  •  Mi Drop makes it easier to share files with nearby devices
  •  Data saver lets you save up to 50 percent data usage
  •  Six text sizes available for you to choose from including XS

The original MIUI 7 OS released in late October carrying four default themes: Rose, Pink Blush, Ocean Breeze and High Life. Users can choose to animate their lock screens with daily weather forecasts or mini games.

MIUI 7 had an upgraded power efficiency system that reduced overall modem power consumption while restricting background apps in order to save up to 10 percent battery life, per NDTV Gadgets.

Games feel much smoother and last longer with MIUI 7 since system response time has been improved by as much as 30 percent. There's also a new XXL text size option for users who prefer text so big only two words can be typed per line.

MIUI 7 includes an automatic photo sorter app that organizes images via face recognition technology. Once a photo is taken, the image will then be sent to a specific "Face" folder. The app can also distinguish faces of various pets.

The "Child Mode" functionality limits what kids can see while using the device. It prevents children from making sudden changes to home screen layouts, contact information, emails and many more.

A thread on the MIUI forum talked about a "Showtime" feature that allows users to set five-second videos as caller IDs. The video of a particular contact will be playing on loop while a call is being made.

Lastly, MIUI 7 users can buy data packages from Xiaomi through the "MI Roaming" app. The app will act as a virtual SIM card for users who travel out of the country. This prevents them from purchasing new SIM cards wherever they go.
