Mexican food, despite its rise in popularity, remains to be one of the most underrated cuisines in the world.

The good news is, plenty of restaurants are now opening in Los Angeles and New York left and right, which gives people a lot of options when craving for some genuine Mexican food.

There are many reasons why it's the best and here's five of them.

1. It's Chockfull of Fresh and Healthy Vegetables

It's obvious that most Mexican dishes include a lot of vegetable as the ingredients: cilantro, red beans, cabbages, onions and a whole lot of other veggies. In fact, some people view the Taco as basically a salad wrapped in a delicious tortilla bread.

And of course, the vegetables used in dishes are always ensured to be as fresh as possible.

Huffington Post said that people looking for some fresh tacos can check out the newly opened Mesita restaurant, located in Rockville Centre, Long Island New York.

2. It's A Complete Meal

Newstastic noted that another reason that makes Mexican food great is that it's everything you want in a meal -- literally rolled into one.

A Burrito for example, is made up of cilantro, refried beans, guacamole, with either beef, chicken or fish as the meat, rice and then rolled inside a fresh and warm tortilla bread.

The Burrito is what people-on-the-go can grab for a quick bite but still feel full and satisfied.

3. Dishes Date Back to The Mayan Times

Eating Mexican food is like eating a piece of ancient history.

Because according to Yahoo! Food, the beloved Tamales has been part of the country's rich cuisine since the Mayan times.

The dish is so ancient that it now comes in hundreds of mouth-watering varieties. But of course, nothing beats the classic pork Tamales with red chilies, steamed in a corn husk.

4. One of The Best Beers in The World

Nothing beats enjoying a big greasy Chimichanga after a long day at work then washing it down with an ice cold Mexican beer.

Other countries can claim that they have the best beer in the world, but Mexican brands like Tecate, Corona and Dos Equis dominate the beer world. In fact, Dos Equis is so popular that it even spouted a viral meme.

5. Nachos

It's not so much of a dish, but more of a snack. Nachos originated from Northern Mexico and has now become the most popular party snack in the world.

Along with potato chips, any party is not complete without some freshly made Nachos, drizzled with jalapeño cheese and paired with a Salsa dip.
