Latina actresses America Ferrera and Eva Longoria revealed just how their now famous Golden Globes joke came to be.

According to Entertainment Weekly, both Ferrera and Longoria took part in the 2016 Winter Television Critics Association tour on Jan. 13. There, the stars discussed how the idea to tackle racism in a funny bit at the Golden Globes originated.

"When we found out we were presenting together at the Golden Globes -- they always send you copy that is horrible with bad jokes -- we took it back to both of our writing staffs and came up with some stuff," Longoria said.

Ferrera, who is currently starring in NBC"s "Superstore," credited the show's creator and executive producer Justin Spitzer with coming up with the concept, even though Spitzer claimed that Ferrera came up with the lines, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

"I went to Justin and said, 'What is going to be funny here?' And we went back and forth a bit, and then Justin came up with the idea to play on what happened to me," she said in reference to the incident in which she was confused for Puerto Rican-American actress Gina Rodriguez.

Longoria, who was at the TCA tour promoting "Telenovela," revealed the funny bit wasn't set until the morning of the award show. She added that when she got a copy of the jokes, she found the whole thing hilarious.

"It has caused such a macro conversation about it ... It went over very, very well. ... Next season is 'The America and Eva Show,'" the 40-year-old joked.

The night of the Golden Globes, after host Ricky Gervais introduced them as "two people Donald Trump wants to deport," the two stars presented the award for Best Actor in a Drama.

Longoria introduced herself and stated that she wasn't Eva Mendes, while Ferrera followed by assuring the crowd that she wasn't Rodriguez.

"Neither one of us are Rosario Dawson," Longoria added.

Ferrera said, "Well said Salma [Hayek]."

Longoria then quickly responded with, "Thank you, Charo," a reference to the popular Spanish actress and comedian.
