The cast of the mega-hit NBC sitcom "Friends" will come together on the Peacock network again for the first time in over a decade for something of a reunion show, but the get together might not be exactly what fans are expecting.

According to Variety, characters Ross, Rachel, Monica, Joey, Chandler and Phoebe will not be in attendance. But actors Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer will indeed be there.

The cast is reuniting all these years after its last episode on NBC for a unique reason: to honor director and TV executive extraordinaire James Burrows. He directed 15 episodes of the iconic TV series and has many other shows on his resume.

Burrows also contributed to series like "Cheers," "Taxi," "Mary Tyler Moore," "The Bob Newhart Show" "Laverne & Shirley," "Frasier," "Will & Grace" and the first episode for today's biggest comedy show, "The Big Bang Theory." The director recently hit his 1,000th episode.

The cast of "Friends" will be reuniting for the first time on NBC to pay tribute to the legendary director in a special block of programming. Although all six of the main cast members will be present on the show in one way or another, they may not show up together due to scheduling conflicts.

NBC president Bob Greenblatt spoke about the show and the reunion at the Television Critics Association press tour on Wednesday morning. He confirmed the actors would indeed be there, but cautioned excited fans about how the special will go down.

"I'm hoping all six will be in same room at same time," Greenblatt said. "I'm not sure we can logistically can pull it off."

Either way, fans of the comedy series will be happy to see their favorite players on the same show together, back on the same network that made them stars.

Although there has been no such announcement yet, enough time has passed since the show went off the air that there could be an actual reunion episode planned at some point.
