Conserving water while showering is now made high-tech, as a French design firm has unveiled a new kind of shower head that flashes different colors when it's using too much water.

The shower head shows different colored LED lights, depending on how much water is being used up. The invention was revealed during the recently concluded CES in Las Vegas.

Called the Hydrao Smart Shower, this new invention by Start & Blue starts out with the color blue, but will flash green when it's already using about 10 liters of water, it will then turn purple when it hits the 50-liter mark and when it's beyond 50 liters, the device will start flashing red that signals it has used too much water.

According to Science Alert, the average American shower taker roughly uses 75 to 80 liters of water every single time they shower, which is a lot when viewed this way. In addition to that, showering also consumes a significant amount of energy since most people heat their water before they shower.

Furthermore, the Hydrao Smart Shower practices what it preaches. Being an eco-friendly product, it does not use any additional batteries or electricity for it to work. What it has is an internal turbine system that runs via the flow of water into the shower head, according to Fast Company.

In addition, the shower head is also so high-tech that it even has a companion app, which can be connected using Bluetooth. What the application does is store data on 200 showers to let users know how much water have they been using.

According to Start & Blue, although the average water usage is 80 liters, it intends to cut it down to 55 liters, with the help of its product.

In an interview by Wired, Marketing Manager Thomas Ciezar said that the technology they have used is specifically suited to teach young kids about the joys conserving water, while also cutting household bills.

The impact of water saving can be huge, as the country, particularly the state of California, is currently experiencing a major drought. The drought has brought reservoirs and groundwater supplies going down to significant levels, making the conservation of water more important than ever.

But with this brand new product from Start & Blue, America can start saving water, one shower at a time.

The Hydrao Smart Shower head will be made available for the public in March and will cost $99.
