The movie "Lucy" is an action-science fiction movie about a woman who unexpectedly finds herself the subject of a dangerous experiment and unlocks the potential to fight back against those who would exploit her with superhuman powers. The film's antagonists include street gangs, organized crime, drug addicts, and police. It is written, directed and co-produced by French director Luch Besson with the following release dates this year: Aug. 8 (U.S.) and Aug. 22 (U.K.). The film was shot in Paris, Taipei and New York.

In the film, a woman named Lucy, the lead character, lives in Taipei, Taiwan, where she is compelled to work as a drug mule for a gang. A mysterious drug seeps into her system, with the unexpected effect that she becomes super-intelligent and skilled. She soon demonstrates the ability to absorb information at incredible speeds and eventually unlock superhuman abilities such as the power to move objects with her mind. Director Besson, is known for action films that feature female characters in the lead role or in an essential support role. He directed Natalie Portman at a young age for the movie "Léon: The Professional" in 1994. He is also known for "The Fifth Element," a memorably unique science fiction movie remembered for its superb editing; it stars Milla Jovovich as a different sort of superhuman heroine alongside Bruce Willis as a far-future cab driver.
