You could be getting your hands on Apple's iPad Air 3 soon, and it's definitely worth the wait if recent rumors are to be believed.

Apple's iPad Air 3 release date could come as soon as March, in conjunction with the release of the MacBook Air 2016 in the same month.

In 2015, people expected the Cupertino-based company to announce the release of the successor to the iPad Air 2. However, Apple opted for the table-sized iPad Pro instead. With no official statement from the tech giant, naturally, it was thought that the tablet range has come to an end.

Now a new iPad Air 3 rumor is out, suggesting that the highly anticipated tablet might be released after all.

According to alphr, since Tim Cook usually makes his announcements in March, with last year's March announcement involving the MacBook Retina, it's highly possible that this year will be the debut of the iPad Air 3.

According to Chinese tech site MyDrivers.com, the postponed announcement is well worth the wait since the iPad Air 3 specs are a big jump from the Apple's second-generation air tablets.

The website claimed that the iPad Air 3 will come with a fingerprint sensor and a screen display of 9.7 inches. The resolution will also increase to 4K level, a huge upgrade from the iPad Air 2's 1536 x 2048 pixel display. The iPad Air 3's processor is also rumoured to be the faster A9X, which will come with at least 2 GB up to 4 GB of RAM.

As for the ultra-thin tablet's camera, the rear will reportedly have a more powerful 13MP primary camera and a secondary front camera of 5MP.

The iPad Air 3 is also reported to come with internal storage capacity options including 16 GB, 32 GB and 128 GB.

With regard to the colors, rumors mention three variants - silver, gold and Apple's signature space grey.

Perhaps most exciting of all is that the tablet will be supporting waterproof and dustproof functions.

However, the downside is that all these iPad Air 3 upgrades could see a reduction in the tablet's battery capacity.

According to Christian Today, the iPad Air 3 rumors started to make their rounds on the internet when KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed in December that Apple could be releasing its latest smart devices in one event soon.

There's still no official word from Apple about these products' release dates, so it's important to take all this information with a grain of salt.
