Freshii is taking advantage of Chipotle’s recent problems by offering a huge discount on its Mexican fares. All of its 200 locations in over 15 countries will feature the price drop.

CNBC revealed that while Chipotle Mexican Grill temporarily closes its restaurants on Feb. 8, 2016 for a national safety meeting. Chipotle has been under fire in the past months due to outbreaks of foodborne disease that reportedly originated in its various restaurants all over the United States. In December 2015, the food chain suffered in sales by around 30 percent.

In the meantime, Freshii will try to lure away many of Chipotle’s customers by providing a discount on all its Mexican dishes in all locations. The Mexican food items will be available at 50 percent off, including the Ranchero Breakfast Burrito and Baja Burrito.

“Like millions of other people, we at Freshii are big fans of Chipotle. We figured the least we would do was look after their customers while Chipotle pauses to recalibrate,” said Matthew Corrin, CEO and founder of Freshii. He said that they wanted to introduce some fun to relieve some of the pressure that has been building up “in a world full of generic promotions.”

He added that if Chipotle customers love one of their menu items, they hope to see them again more frequently.

USA Today wrote that Freshii serves a wide array of wraps, burritos, fresh salads and juices. The company began in Canada in 2005 and has grown to hundreds of locations throughout the world. Chipotle, meanwhile, has over 1,900 branches.

The New York Times said that Chipotle has been struggling to bounce back and regain their customers. The company shared earlier in January 2016 that it will brief all of its employees on Feb. 8 regarding new safety measures and practices that will guarantee clean and tasty food for all its customers.

Chipotle will introduce DNA-based testing of its ingredients to ascertain safety and quality before these are shipped to its several outlets. The company will also provide paid sick leave so that sick employees stay home and avoid contamination.

Based on the same report by New York Times report, it is not actually the first time that Freshii attempted to take advantage of another food chain’s problems. In May 2015, Corrin proposed to McDonald’s chief executive Steve Easterbrook to have a Freshii kiosk set up in one store. According to the exec, the McDonald’s outlet would see an increase of 30 percent over a period of one year and result to profits of around $250,000 with the move.

Chipotle has not yet commented on Freshii’s plans.
