Amazon has really stepped up its game lately. With the arrival of the iPad-beating Kindle Fire HDX tablet lineup and its development of high-quality, original TV series programming the eCommerce Giant is looking to expand well beyond its traditional footprint. The latest effort to round out the company and make it more competitive in the device-building space is the Kindle Fire TV. It's a $99 set-top box like no other, and one that puts Roku, Google and Apple on notice.

Just why is the Kindle Fire TV such a hot product these days? Well, it sports the fastest performance of any set-top box to date! That's due to its impressive GPU, quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM. All this power isn't just for show either. The Kindle Fire TV's innovative GPU architecture allows for silky smooth playback of Full HD video without needing to stop and buffer so much. The high quality, beautiful user-interface graphics also have to be attributed to the GPU's prowess.

The quad-core CPU is no slouch either. Navigating between shows, apps, games, and movies has never been this easy. For comparison's sake, the venerable Apple TV only has a single-core functioning chip powering the entire device. Yikes! That processor will definitely not be able to handle media such as 4K video. Along with the CPU, the RAM just helps ensure that every user-input is address in a timely manner. There's little to no lag with this device!

All this tech-jargon got your head spinning? Well, this may be right up your alley -- the Kindle Fire TV supports voice inputs. Akin to Google Now and Siri, Kindle Fire TV's virtual assistant intelligently finds your favorite actors and genres. Most tech reviewers have found the feature to be more well developed than competitors' voice search, but have said it's still a bit rough around the edges.

If you're tired off watching glorious HD video then feel free to pick up the Fire Game Controller (an extra $40 purchase) and fire up an Android-based video game. The controller looks like an Xbox gamepad and is well-featured. In terms of games classic mobiel titles like Candy Crush and Angry Birds are available as well as newer titles and Amazon exclusives like Sev Zero, a "Halo-knock off," according to Geek Wire.
