Funny man Stephen Colbert took a stop by his soon-to-be new home on "The Late Show" Tuesday night just two weeks after CBS announced that they had signed Colbert to a multi-year contract as David Letterman's replacement.

Letterman, 67, has been the iconic host of "The Late Show" since its debut in 1993. With over 20 years of late night under his belt, Letterman announced on-air that he will retire from the show last week.

So what does Letterman think about his successor, Stephen Colbert? Well, apparently Letterman's "thrilled" to have Colbert take his place.

"Well, obviously I'm thrilled and honored to be taking over for you," said Colbert who appeared on set as himself and not his "The Colbert Report" alter ego, Stephen Colbert.

"Well, I'm thrilled as well," Letterman cheerfully responded.

Letterman also commented on how well the late night set already suits his sucessor.

"You look good," Letterman said as Colbert came on stage. "You look right at home."

Perhaps Letterman's confidence in Colbert's late night hosting ability stems from Colbert's already impressive resume and hosting abilities on his Emmy-award winning Comedy Central show "The Colbert Report."

Before "The Colbert Report" the 49-year-old comedian was first introduced to audiences as a correspondent on Comedy Central's news-parody series, "The Daily Show."

His additional accomplishments include his performance as a featured entertainer at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, being named one of Time's 100 most influential people, and becoming a New York Times Best Selling author for his book "I am America (And So Can You!)," just to name a few.

"I'm gonna do whatever you have done," said Colbert as he showered his predecessor with praise. "It seems to have gone pretty well, Dave."

As the gleeful interview came to a close, the two comedic hosts took a selfie to cherish the special occasion.

Aww.
