Fans of "Jane The Virgin" can look forward to more family drama, surprise twists and an "emotional" midseason premiere when the comedy series returns from its winter hiatus this Monday.

Show creator Jennie Snyder Urman opened up about what's to come on the popular sitcom during a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, revealing that Jane (Gina Rodriguez) will struggle to balance her life as a new mother and full-time grad student. In addition, the young mom is trapped in a love triangle between the father of her child and her ex-fiancé.

Hence, it won't be long before she finds herself fighting a losing battle with sleep deprivation.

"She's going through sleep training," teased Urman, who says she drew inspiration for the storyline from her own experience as a parent. "But because it's Jane, she experiences the magic realism of it all in a scene that connects a basketball sleep training session with some sleep center announcers."

Along with her personal struggles, Jane's family will face a turning point when Jane's grandfather leaves her grandmother for another man. The news will be revealed when legendary Puerto Rican actress Rita Moreno reprises her role as Jane's grandmother and Rogelio's (Jaime Camil) mom. However, Urman says Rogelio will be most affected by his parents' failed marriage rather than the revelation that his father is gay.

"It's not the peculiarity of his father's coming-out story that's hurtful to him, it's the fact that his parent's marriage is crumbling and he didn't know that any of this was going on," said the executive producer. "So he has emotional things to unpack, and so does Rita."

Urman also dropped spoilers about Rogelio's new telenovela, where he will star as a poor cobbler in the 19th century who discovers a time portal that allows him to travel through time to "many important historical moments."

She added, "There's a few surprising places he turns up at, and that connects us to our stories and themes in a way that's really fun."

Meanwhile, Petra (Yael Grobglas) will continue to suffer during her pregnancy.

"Most twins arrive early, but not Petra's. She's going to be pregnant for as long as possible and will give birth in episode 14," Urman said.

The EP also talked about the build up to a highly anticipated wedding that will take place this season.

"There's still going to be a wedding. In the next couple of episodes things will click into place." she teased.

However, she neglected to reveal whether Professor Chavez (recurring guest star Adam Rodriguez) could end up as Jane's new love interest.

"All I'll say is that their relationship develops," she said.

A preview video, however, shows Jane and the professor getting hot and steamy in his office.

Season 2, Episode 9 of "Jane the Virgin," "Chapter Thirty-One," will premiere on Monday, Jan. 25 on The CW.
