Manny Pacquiao is all set to face Timothy Bradley Jr. this Apr. 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, his alleged final fight before he devotes his full time to politics.

Pacquiao is running for a senatorial seat in the coming national elections in the Philippines and is a heavy favorite to make it to the magic 12. Should he indeed win, it would eat up much of his time and make it doubly hard for him to prepare for another boxing match if he does indeed have plans of fighting on after his tiff with “Desert Storm”.

Everyone knows that a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a tiff that would likely lure him out of retirement in the future. For now, however, that is wishful thinking, with Mayweather repeatedly saying that he is pretty much made with his earnings and what he has already accomplished.

Aside from Mayweather, who else could draw Pacquiao out of retirement?

There is one name that comes to mind – Juan Manuel Marquez.

Marquez was among the floated names that Pacquiao would have considered had the Mexican been interested to face off for a fifth time.

Pacquiao’s interest against Marquez is seen more as a revenge angle, seeing that ‘El Dinamita’ was responsible for one of Pacquiao’s losses and big knockout which happened back in Dec. 8, 2012.

After that fight, Marquez lost to Bradley Jr. via split decision (Oct. 12, 2013) but came back strong in May 17, 2014 with a unanimous decision win over Mike Alvarado.

That tiff with Alvarado was the last anyone had heard of Marquez, who claims that he has not officially retired despite being already 42 years old.

Knee problems were mentioned as the reason why the Mexican has been kept in the sidelines until now. His name went afloat recently when trainer Freddie Roach mentioned him as a possible opponent for Miguel Cotto via Boxing 24 News.

Marquez shunned a possible fifth fight which promised to draw in a lot of money. It is believed that Marquez was no longer interested and is fine with having one up over Pacquiao.

“Let him enjoy what he did to me. Give him credit,” Pacquiao said via Boxingscene.com.

As far as Marquez vs. Pacquiao is concerned, Roach admits that the Mexican wants to keep it that way and keep the distinction of being the man who knocked out an eight-time division champion.

“He likes the way that last one ended, I think, too much, of course. It is the reason a fifth fight hasn’t happened,” says Roach.

In a couple of months, it will mark two years since Marquez has been away from the ring. While he denies it, Marquez seems to be joining the list of retired boxing greats which include Floyd Mayweather Jr. and also Manny Pacquiao soon after his bout with Bradley.
