A 20-year-old girl is getting a lot of attention after being dubbed “The Cuban Adele.” She can certainly belt out the Grammy winner’s tunes and more.

According to The Huffington Post, Yoli Mayor is a cubana based in Miami who made a reputation for doing perfect covers of Adele’s hits. When she was a teenager, Yoli went to the Academy of Arts and Minds, where she enhanced her singing skills.

In 2012, she started posting videos of herself doing covers of Adele’s songs. At present, she sings at music venues and local festivals, doing covers of her favorite artists, which include the British singer, Marc Anthony, Amy Winehouse and Selena. Her other favorites are Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald. She also makes her own music.

“My love for these artists stems from their passion, their fire! I can relate to that fire because I am by nature an intensely passionate woman,” Mayor told The Huffington Post. She explained that when she watched Marc Anthony perform live when she was a young girl, the experience made her realize that singing was going to be her passion for the rest of her life. She admired the way that the Latino singer gave his all on stage, which greatly influenced her in respecting and staying committed to her craft.

Miami Herald revealed that she also sings some of her original tracks during performances. One of her original songs, “Men Will Be Men,” is about equality in a relationship.

“I was raised in a Cuban household where I was told that the woman needed to cook and clean and have everything ready for when the man came home. I want women to be independent, and I want people to stop teaching their little girls that they’re princesses that need to be maintained,” Yoli said about her song.

Mayor is very straightforward, which makes her quite a character to deal with. She said that being honest with herself and her listeners is vital. She said that she performs according to how she feels. She added that she only writes songs about things that she actually experienced.

Mayor’s ultimate goal is to stir emotion and affect people using her art. She wants her music to impact people of all ages and to move them while listening.

Yoli said that she feels very honored to be compared to Adele, although she hopes that she will be recognized for her own voice and message in the future.
