Steve Nash had his best years with the Phoenix Suns, but unfortunately, the former two-time NBA Most Valuable Player is not yet ready to take on a coaching role.

The Suns recently fired head coach Jeff Hornacek as he failed to prove his worth despite being given a second chance. Hornacek was fired Monday with Earl Watson tasked to fill up the spot on an interim basis, as reported by Yahoo! Sports.

Hornacek was given the pink slip following the Suns' loss to the Dallas Mavericks. It was the 19th defeat for the team in 21 games and the 14th straight on the road.

With Hornacek out, Nash drew strong interest from the Suns. ESPN reports that the eight-time NBA All Star was at the top of the list of team owner Robert Sarver. However, Nash isn’t ready to become a coach just yet.

Nash has been working on a part-time consulting role with the Golden State Warriors but has devoted much of his time since retirement to his family. With that said, Nash is not seen to be fine with the idea of being away from his family if he were to take on the role.

With a head coaching gig out of the picture, it may not stop the Suns from trying to hook up Nash. If not as a coach, the Canadian basketball star could come on board the Suns’ bandwagon taking on a front-office role instead.

Aside from the Suns’ assistant coaches, which include Watson, Corey Gaines and Nate Bjorkgen, Sarver could look into the list of available coaches in the market today. The list includes their former coach Mike D’Antoni, Mike Brown, Tim Thibodeau and recently fired Cavs head coach David Blatt.

With the season halfway, it will be interesting to see if the Suns will install a new head coach or see what Watson can do on an interim basis first. The Suns are currently 14-35 for the season and may need a big run to try and target at least an eighth spot in the NBA playoffs.

Aside from that, it will be interesting as well to see if the Suns address other issues like their players as cited by Bleacher Report.

The NBA trade deadline is fast approaching and everyone knows that one player who wants out is Markieff Morris. Morris’ beef is with the team's management because of the trade involving his brother Marcus (now with the Detroit Pistons). Hornacek’s firing is unlikely to change his mind.

Brandon Knight is also another player that could be traded soon, seeing that Hornacek’s old three-guard system could very well be scrapped if Watson opts for a new approach.
