Samoa Joe was recruited for a reason and it was not mainly for him to beef up the WWE NXT brand.

For someone who has been around and is technically a household name in the world of wrestling entertainment, it is not surprising at all to hear murmurs that the former TNA champion will be booted up to the WWE main roster.

Word about Samoa Joe’s moving up to the main roster comes from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter via Wrestlezone. The bad news is that it is not happening before WrestleMania 32.

Samoa Joe made his WWE debut in May 2015, when he appeared and made a save on Sami Zayn from Canadian Kevin Owens. But it was only in June where Joe signed him up full-time. His first official match came on June 10 when he faced Scott Dawson.

After starting out as a face wrestler, Joe would turn heel when he attacked Finn Balor. The two eventually mixed it up in December for the NXT title with Balor retaining his championship.

If Joe eventually makes his WWE main roster debut, he will likely be pitted against Kevin Owens. The two had an animated feud at WWE NXT, cut short when the Canadian was kicked up to the main shows.

But as mentioned, Joe’s debut could depend on what the WWE has in mind. At the moment, he is reportedly being groomed to defeat Balor, which means that he will win the NXT championship at some point. If so, it could turn out to be the same route that Owens did. The brash-talking Canadian emerged in the main roster scene still as champion but eventually lost when his role started to settle.

Joe’s insertion could be similar though it will be interesting which title he would be aiming for: the United States (currently held by Kalisto) or the Intercontinental title (held by Dean Ambrose).

A feud with Kalisto could make sense since the two had already faced off before. Eyeing the Intercontinental title could also make sense but would again depend on what the WWE plans to do with the Lunatic Fringe.

Ambrose has suddenly become a favorite for WWE Fastlane since he is well-received by fans. While the belief is that Triple H would be facing Roman Reigns, Ambrose cannot be totally discounted just yet.

Seeing Samoa Joe in the main roster should be a good call considering the roster has been severely depleted by injuries. Though it is unofficial, the word out is that Joe would be getting the push after WrestleMania 32 in April, per Wrestling Inc.
