The New York Daily News reported last Feb. 2 that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick wants out of the team and prefers the New York Jets as his next team. However, the NJ Advance Media noted that there is no truth in the report, but it did not prevent Jets legendary quarterback Joe Namath from supporting the idea.

In an appearance on the "Michael Kay Show" last Friday, Feb. 5, Namath said that the Jets should consider bringing in Kaepernick if he becomes available. The question popped out when "Broadway Joe" was asked about Brandon Marshall's reaction to the idea of Kaepernick playing in New York. Marshall was a guest on ESPN's "First Take" when he revealed that does not want to play with Kaepernick but instead prefers current QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.

"I know that Fitzpatrick did a wonderful job this year. Whenever I'm asked to critique what I've seen and what I feel, I know that he would like to throw the ball more accurately given the chance. You need more than one quarterback on a team. If Kaepernick were available, I'd certainly consider bringing him in, yes," Namath said as quoted by the NY Daily News.

The 33-year-old Fitzpatrick enjoyed a career year with the Jets this season after winning the starting job from Geno Smith. He led the team to a ten-win season and on the verge of the playoffs while also setting the franchise record for the most touchdown passes in a season with 31, per the Washington Post.

The Jets have a high interest in re-signing Fitzpatrick with the player also enjoying his time in New York. He told NJ.com, "It's the most fun I've ever had in a season with the guys in this locker room, the run that we kind of had there in December. Hopefully, I can be back and continue to build on that."

On the other hand, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported on Twitter that Kaepernick really wants out of San Francisco, but there is no mutual interest from the Jets. He is currently rehabbing a bunch of injuries to his knee and thumb with his personal trainers in Colorado rather than the 49ers' own staff.

In an ESPN report early in the season, San Francisco has until April 1 until the 28-year-old QB's contract for the 2016 season becomes guaranteed. The 49ers have less than two months to decide whether they will keep Kaepernick, but NFL.com noted that the hiring of Chip Kelly as the team's head coach can save the struggling QB's career.
