A number of ultra-famous stars gathered for lunch at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Feb. 8, 2016. The celebrities and all nominees also posed for a luncheon photo. There were about 150 nominees who gathered at the venue.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Lady Gaga and Alejandro G. Inarritu were present at the 35th annual Oscar Nominees Luncheon at the Beverly Hilton that afternoon. The annual class photo was taken during the event, which was hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ board of governors.

Some of the nominees in the photo included DiCaprio, Lawrence, Damon, Charlotte Rampling, Brie Larson, Rachel McAdams, Alicia Vikander, Saoirse Ronan, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rooney Mara, Mark Ruffalo, Eddie Redmayne, Sylvester Stallone and Bryan Cranston. Directors Steven Spielberg, George Miller and Ridley Scott were also available.

The nominees for best music include Sam Smith, Abel Tesfaye of The Weeknd, Diane Warren and other contenders. The Best Actor and Best Actress nominees, except for Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett, attended the event. All Best Director nominees were also present, including new DGA winner Inarritu, as well as almost all the nominated producers. The group gathered around a giant model of the famous trophy for the batch photo.

Deadline mentioned that the Academy’s nominee photo has been a tradition in the past 41 years with some of the biggest stars in history gracing previous similar events.

The Los Angeles Times also reported that Cheryl Boone Isaacs, President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, said that this year, there is an elephant in the room. She added that she already asked the “elephant” to leave. Isaacs was at the center of certain rule changes that the academy board of governors introduced in January 2016 with the aim to make the organization more inclusive. The issue sparked much controversy, but the president encouraged the people in the room to relax.

This year, a lot of conversations leading to the Oscars were about the controversial all-white list of acting nominees for the second straight year. There were signs positioned outside the hotel that reminded fans and celebrities about the exclusive lineup of actors. Academy members will cast their votes for the Oscars from Feb. 12 to 23.

The 88th annual Academy Awards will air live on Feb. 28, 2016 on ABC, with Chris Rock as host.

More updates and details on the nominees and winners of the 2016 Oscar Awards are expected soon.
