WhatsApp update 2.12.340.2 is something that BlackBerry 10 users have been waiting after the company's CEO previously announced that the brand will not be releasing models out of their homegrown OS but with the Android system.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp is currently dealing with a malware in the form of a scam message.According to HackRead, the malware looks like an authentic message from a friend, but once users open the accompanying link, they will be redirected to a fake website that spawn's the users device and drop the malware.

What's even more worrisome about this scam is that they are using popular brands such as Zara and Starbucks to lure WhatsApp users. Once they land on the bogus website, the possibility of being vulnerable to scammers who will work on stealing their personal information is very high.

According to the publication, scammers targeting WhatsApp is not surprising because of its massive following and the great opportunity of scamming millions. Recently, WhatsApp recorded their first billion followers and they are currently holding a record of 42 billion messages sent on a daily basis. The wide scope of the app has also helped extend the malware's coverage.

The Deccan Chronicle featured the different ways the malware tried to scam WhatsApp users. Apparently, scammers also went as far as asking them to register in order to use the application even in the absence of an internet connection. Alarming as it may seem, users were redirected to what looked like an authentic WhatsApp webpage called WhatsAppNoData.com.

Apparently, entering random characters also enables a user to get verified and they are also prompted to invite at least 10 more users to do the same. Failure to do so will forfeit their brand vouchers that offer discounts.
