The dry season is here. The entire state of California is engulfed in a historic draught while the rest of the Western United States isn't doing much better. But despite all these water shortages and the problems attributed to it, nothing matches the content drought that Showtime fans are feeling at this very moment.

The fact of the matter is this: Late spring, early summer TV is bad. Without "Homeland" or "Sons of Anarchy," what are Showtime fans doing with themselves? Have they turned to the dark side and subscribed to HBO just to catch a glimpse of "Game of Thrones?" Regardless of what's happening, let's take a look at what might happen when "Homeland" returns to a TV near you this fall.

Let's recap a little. Season 3 ended badly for the Americans. Saul Berenson was kicked out of a job and Brody was messed up -- six feet under style. His neck went limp and sagged like a sad piece of beef jerky. While the writers had to get rid of Brody in order to refocus the show's premise going into Season 4, how will they deal with replacing such an iconic character? After all, in the real-world, the Emmys awarded Damian Lewis for playing the character. That kind of on-screen persona is tough to match.

The big question on everyones mind is what Carrie is going to do with her baby. She must be about as big as a house now, but is she emotionally prepared to become a mother? She's dealing with a lot of turmoil, new and old, not to mention the fact that she has bipolar disorder. One option would be to write the baby off of the show in one of two ways: adoption or miscarriage. But since this baby is the last vestige of Nicholas Brody, it's doubtful that happens.

Nevertheless, previously released materials alluded to the fact that Carrie may lose her baby, according to the International Business Times. That suggestion came in the form of a promo clip for the ninth episode of Season 3. Of course, nothing happened to the baby then, but things like this make you wonder what the writers have in store for Season 4.
