Through a Super Bowl 50 ad, CBS announced that “The Good Wife” Season 7 will be the show's last. Here are some details of the final season and cast members.

According to Variety, showrunners Michelle and Robert King shared that they've always planned to have the show end after seven seasons. Robert King said that the story of Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) could only support seven seasons.

The couple previously stated that they will exit “The Good Wife” after the current season, so it was up to CBS to continue the show without its creators. In January 2016, entertainment president Glenn Geller hinted that it was possible for the show to continue to Season 8 but CBS confirmed that it will not happen. The Kings were reportedly thrilled that CBS decided to end the show with them.

“This isn’t a show that’s ending because anybody hates each other. It’s a show that’s ending because it should be ending,” Robert said.

Based on the same Variety report, the showrunners did not share a lot of details about the remaining episodes, but said that they wished to see a number of returning characters, including Robyn Burdine (Jess Weixler) and Kurt McVeigh (Gary Cole). Fans, however, should not expect Kalinda (Archie Punjabi) to reappear. Michelle said that Kalinda deliberately went away so there would be no reason for her to return. Will Gardner (Josh Charles) is also unlikel to reappear in the final episodes.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed, though, that Blair Underwood is set to guest star in one of the upcoming episodes.

In an article by TV Line, the Kings will not be doing a time jump to finish the story. Robert said that the show always relied on the continuity of the moment. The Kings hope to delve more into the fate of Alicia’s personal and professional life. She will be dealing with Will and realize that she has to learn how to move on.

As for the ending, Michelle said that it will most likely be surprising and inevitable. Robert said that he likes endings that are both happy and sad at the same time.

There are also rumors of a spinoff. The showrunners said that they are not ruling anything out, and that they would like for other cast members to be the focus for a change, including Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston).

“The Good Wife” Season 7 will air again Feb. 14 on CBS.
