The 2016 MLB Spring Training is just a week away, but the Baltimore Orioles remains interested in several players in free agency and the trade market. The Orioles' main priority is to sign a starting pitcher, but they are now being linked with outfielder Dexter Fowler and Cincinnati Reds' Jay Bruce, per Mass Live.

Orioles, Yovani Gallardo Working on a Three-Year Deal

According to an ESPN report, Baltimore and Gallardo are close to signing a three-year contract worth around $40 to $45 million. The Orioles have been linked with the 29-year-old right-hander for the past month since the team is looking to replace Wei-Yin Chen, who joined the Miami Marlins.

Gallardo posted a 13-11 record with a 3.42 ERA in his first year with the Texas Rangers last season, but he declined a qualifying offer to become a free agent this offseason. To be able to sign the former Ranger, the Orioles will have to relinquish their first-round pick as compensation. With Baltimore open to letting the 14th overall pick go, they are also interested in giving up their second-round pick for another free agent.

Dexter Fowler Interest

The Baltimore Sun noted that the Orioles would have to give up the 29th overall pick in next year's draft, but the team will still have four more picks in the first 100 selection. Fowler had a great season with the Chicago Cubs last year as he registered career-high runs, scoring 162 and 102 home runs.

Although the 29-year-old had a .250 batting average in 2015, he had a .363 on-base percentage that will certainly help Baltimore's heavy-hitting lineup. Fowler could also fill up the corner outfield positions and play center if Adam Jones needs some rest.

Cincinnati Red's Jay Bruce and Free Agent Pedro Alvarez

In a report by FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, he said that the Orioles have also expressed interest in the Reds' Jay Bruce as well as free agent first baseman Pedro Alvarez. However, Rosenthal mentioned that Baltimore might not have the prospects to convince Cincinnati to let Bruce go. The two-time All-Star hit a mediocre .226 but had 26 home runs and 87 RBIs, per Baseball Reference.

On the other hand, despite the rumored interest on Alvarez, Bleacher Report noted that the slugging lefty is not needed in Baltimore because he can only play first and third base. The Orioles recently re-signed first baseman Chris Davis to a massive contract, while Manny Machado occupies the third base. Still, it his power bat could help Baltimore, as they try to get back to the playoffs and possibly the World Series.
