The 2016 list of the 10 richest female singers has been released. Although there are a number of famous names in the exclusive slate, there are also a number of surprising artists who made the cut.

1. Madonna ($1 billion). Gazette Review wrote that the queen of pop has a business empire that put her at the top of the list. Madonna owns Hard Candy Fitness, founded Maverick, an entertainment firm, and is also highly active in the fashion, fragrance, cosmetics and book industry. She still comes up with great hits every now and then, but has proven that she can rake in cash on or off stage.

2. Celine Dion ($630 million). Dion has established a reputation as being one of the top divas in the past three decades. She is also heavily involved in business, being the founder of the Nickels fast food chain and owner of Les Productions Feeling Inc., a singing agency in Canada. Dion also owns a golf club, a night club and a restaurant. Dion is still very active in entertainment, having her own Vegas residency at present.

3. Mariah Carey ($520 million). Carey is one of the most famous singers in the world and has raked in millions for her bestselling albums in the past several years. Carey appeared as a judge on “American Idol” and also has a highly successful residency in Las Vegas.

4. Gloria Estefan ($500 million). According to Hollywood Life, the Latina singer has built her name through the decades and made huge loads of cash through her bestselling albums. Estefan is also in the food business, owning a string of Cuban-themed restaurants in the West Coast. She has also invested in the perfume, fashion and book industry and owns a minor stake in the Miami Dolphins.

5. Dolly Parton ($500 million). The country singer made her first millions through her many albums. She also invested in the film, clothing and book industry. She even has her own theme park, called Dollywood.

6. Shania Twain ($350 million). Twain is another country singer who has made her mark since the 1990s. The Canadian beauty made her fortune through her bestselling albums and sold-out tours. Her concerts continue to sell out and her albums are still being bought off of shelves by millennials.

7. Barbra Streisand ($340 million). The famous singer has been in various films and also appeared on Broadway. Her bestselling albums also helped her reap millions through the years. She has been particularly interested in the movie business, having acted in, produced and directed various projects.

8. Cher ($320 million). For so many years, Cher has become a household name and has garnered a reputation for being among the bestselling artists of all time. Cher has also appeared in numerous films.

9. Jennifer Lopez ($300 million). J Lo had several hit songs and bestselling albums, although it was her appearance on “American Idol” and movie career that helped her bring in huge sums of cash. Lopez is also engaged in the fragrance, clothing and accessories business. She recently had her own Las Vegas residency.

10. Nana Mouskouri ($280 million). Hollywood Life wrote that Mouskouri is probably the least familiar name in the list, but she has been in the music industry since the 1960s. She has produced music in various languages through the years. Nina also owns several homes around the globe.
