Tom Thibodeau is one of the few good coaches available in the market, and at some point, will likely land his next coaching gig.

Thibodeau did express his interest on possibly taking on the New York Knicks but his style may not be suited to the qualifications that president Phil Jackson is looking for.

Still, Thibodeau is not yet totally discounted as the Knicks are still weighing out candidates and their options via the Chicago Sun-Times.

However, if the Knicks aren’t interested, then maybe the Minnesota Timberwolves will.

The T-Wolves have been playing this season under interim head coach Sam Mitchell, a scenario that remained unchanged with the untimely passing of Flip Saunders.

Mitchell has done his share of changes, but the fact remains that the Timberwolves have hardly improved at all.

They are currently at 17-37, and unlikely to make the postseason wars again.

On that note, it seems that the Timberwolves have touched based with Thibodeau and discussions are believed to be ongoing, via ESPN.

Thibodeau would be inheriting a pretty good team that comes with the league’s youngest but most promising frontline in Andrew Wiggins and rookie Karl-Anthony Towns. There is also Zach LaVine and a Spanish point guard that has yet to make a consistent big splash.

With all that in mind, Thibodeau may want to weigh his options and forget about the Knicks for a minute. This is a young and rising team he could take on where he is free to do as he pleases.

Aside from the players mentioned, the Timberwolves are also in line for another high draft pick. The team also has free cap space which allows him to reel in players he wants in the mix.

With all that on the table, Thibodeau will likely get a free hand to rebuild the team (if needed) and implement his system which molded the Chicago Bulls in recent years just when no one gave that franchise a chance.

If both sides come up with an agreement, it could be the next best thing compared to the Knicks situation. With a record of 255-139 with the Bulls, Thibodeau could pick up from where he left off with lesser worries as long as he turns things around.

The Timberwolves are set to have a bright future, and perhaps that was what the late coach Saunders had in mind. All is not lost, however, if the Wolves sign up Thibodeau. He may be criticized on certain things but he has proven that he can deliver results from doing so.
