Konami announced on Sunday that "Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes," an action-adventure stealth game it published from the developer Kojima Productions, has sold 1 million copies to retailers so far (a number which does not factor in online sales nor whether the retailers successfully sold the games to customers). There were no publicly-released figures as to the total number of copies sold, but it was the sixth best selling game in the U.S. for this month according to IGN. The Gamers Progress reports that this has surprised many in the games industry because the game has gotten significant bad press for being unusually short for a game of its price.

"Metal Gear Solid 5'" breaks the mold by being released in two parts. The first part, "Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes," is the next part of the "Metal Gear" game series, following "Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker" and is the preamble to "Metal Gear Solid 5:  The Phantom Pain."

The promising sales are likely to only increase after news broke of a patch and a game update for "Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes" was announced by Konami on the same day. Available on May 1, the update will unchain two previously restricted missions which had each been limited to be playable only on one of the Xbox and PlayStation platforms. With the update, any gamer will be able to unlock and play the "Jamais Vu" and "Déjà vu" missions.

"Metal Gear Solid 5:  Ground Zeroes" is available on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4 platforms for $30. Alternatively, the digital edition is available on PS4 and Xbox One for $30; while digital version for the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms cost $20.

Its full-length sequel,  "The Phantom Pain," has no definite release date yet, as it is still under development for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4 platforms.
