Homemade Flour Tortillas

1.) Make the dough

All you need are 2 cups of all-purpose flour, half a teaspoon of salt, a third of a cup of water and 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and knead it well until the dough is smooth and allow it to rest for 10 minutes.

2.) Divide the dough

The recipe makes 8 tortillas so equally divide the dough into 8 balls.

3.) Flatten the dough

Flatten it out to 7-inch flat circles using a rolling pin. However, you can have it as thin as you like.

4.) Cook

Use a large skillet with a bit of oil to cook the tortillas. Use medium heat and cook it for a minute per side or until it is a bit browned.

According to the author, if you have access to special cornmeal called masa harina, you can use it too. All you need to do is combine the cornmeal and salt in the bowl and add the warm water gradually. Knead the dough for about 3 to 4 minutes. Their recipe yields 15 tortillas and makes use of a frying skillet.
