She's not one to shy away from expressing her thoughts and beliefs, and now, Caitlyn Jenner has chosen a side in the presidential race, voicing her support for Ted Cruz.

Her choice candidate

In an interview with The Advocate, the lifelong Republican spoke freely about her political leanings as well as her willingness to help out as a member and representative of the trans community.

Jenner, 66, admitted that she liked the Republican presidential candidate, adding that Cruz was nice when she had the opportunity to meet him prior to her transition. She went on to say that while she hadn't really endorsed Cruz, she found that the politician was "a great constitutionalist, and a very articulate man."

Cruz's trans history

Although she was very complimentary of her candidate of choice, she did acknowledge that Cruz left much to be desired with regard to the trans community. Jenner said, "He's an evangelical Christian, and probably one of the worst ones when it comes to trans issues."

Cruz has been an outspoken opposition of transgender rights. He even addressed a Department of Education ruling last year in an Illinois school district about a transgender girl gaining access to the girls' locker room in school.

In an EWTN network interview, the presidential candidate regarded the decision as one made by "zealots," and that as a father, he wouldn't want his daughters "taking showers with little boys."

The Olympic winner and "I Am Cait" star revealed that she is considering helping Cruz be more open and responsive to the different trans-related issues as his "trans ambassador," along with her other friends.

Why Jenner still votes Cruz

Despite having differing views on such issues, the Republican star told The Advocate that she is firmly on the politician's side, especially since there are a lot of other pressing issues in the country and economy these days.

"Number one, if we don't have a country, we don't have trans issues," Jenner pointed out during the interview with the magazine. "We need jobs. We need a vibrant economy. I want every trans person to have a job. With $19 trillion in debt and it keeps going up, we're spending money we don't have. Eventually, it's going to end. And I don't want to see that."

She added, "Socialism did not build this country. Capitalism did. Free enterprise. The people built it. And they need to be given the opportunity to build it back up."
