Season four of "American Horror Story" has been dubbed a "Freak Show." As usual, creator Ryan Murphy is being secretive about the show's details, but actress Angela Bassett has dished some clues about her upcoming freaky character.

Bassett, perhaps like the show's other female stars, had one fear in mind when she learned of "American Horror Story: Freak Show": donning a beard for an entire season.

"You know it's 'Freak Show,' so your mind begins to work," Bassett said in an interview with Vulture during the Jazz at Lincoln Center at Gala on May 1. "I had an opportunity to see [Murphy], and I knew it was going to be fabulous, and the writers are amazing, but you know a woman's curiosity. I said, 'Ryan, am I the bearded lady?'"

Lucky for the 55-year-old actress, her fate does not include the horrors of scratchy face hair.

"I'm not the bearded lady," Bassett confirmed.

Instead, Murphy promised Bassett that she would be portraying something "even more special." He also crossed off one other possibility. Bassett will not play one half of conjoined twins. This revelation has left her out of guesses.

"I don't know what other freaks there are," she said. "After the bearded lady and the conjoined twins, what else is there? We're all freaks."

The next chapter in Murphy's series will take place in the 1950s in Jupiter, Florida. Jessica Lange will play a German woman who manages one of the last freak shows still standing in the United States. The season will be her last. Denis O'Hare recently revealed that he will play "a collector of freaks." According to TV Guide, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates and Sarah Paulson will play freaks. In late March, Murphy announced the addition of new cast member Michael Chiklis as Bates' ex-husband and Peters' father.

"American Horror Story: Freak Show" premieres on FX in October.
