Being Latina can mean a lot of things, but there are some universal aspects, hilariously showcased on social media, that any Latina will be able to relate to, whether she is Mexican, Puerto Rican, Colombian or Ecuadorian.

Aging ... or Not

For some reason, plenty of Latinas don't seem to age. Just ask Jennifer Lopez and Sofia Vergara. Vergara clearly agrees since she shared this meme on her own Instagram. Both older than 40, Vergara and Lopez, as well as plenty of other stars like Selena Gomez, Thalía and Salma Hayek, look as young as they did 10 years ago.

From English to Spanish

This is pretty much a learned trait. When Latin parents are mad, they will yell and scold in Spanish. For a Latina, using Spanish to yell at someone or curse someone out is pretty normal. It can also be empowering and far more fulfilling if the intended target doesn't understand what she is saying.

Waiting to Start Dating

For Latina teenagers, love lives are either nonexistent or well kept secrets from parents. This is true until Latinas reach their childbearing years, when their parents begin to bug them constantly about getting married and having children. Approval is never simple.

Getting Over a Breakup

When a Latina does date, she is tough as nails. Latinas spend a lot of time learning to take care of a home, caring for siblings, going to school and spending time with family, including listening to other women in the family gossip about men. This all makes a breakup seem minuscule compared to everything else going on.

The Food Struggle

Like any culture, food is important for Latinos. Latinas spend just as much time enjoying food as they do learning how to make it from their mothers, abuelas and tias. It doesn't have to be a holiday for the table to be covered in tamales, pernil, rice and beans or tortillas. Staying fit is a challenge like no other. Latinas who manage this with ease are the lucky ones.

Cleaning Habits

Whose mother or grandmother uses Fabuloso to clean? Most Latinas can relate, seeing those colorful discount store cleaning liquids in their kitchens growing up and recalling having to use them to clean on the weekends. Those bottles probably still sit on kitchen counters everywhere.

Social Gatherings

No family gathering ever starts on time. The older Latinas in a family will spend time prepping meals for an occasion, but the food won't be eaten until every family member arrives. This can elicit a particular facial expression from younger, starving Latinas.
