Kevin Durant is set to become one of the most sought-after free agents in the history of the NBA this coming summer. Many NBA teams are ready to splash money for the four-time NBA scoring champion, who is one of the best scorers the game has ever seen.

The latest team to be linked with the 27-year-old forward is the Boston Celtics. He praised the city of Boston during the Oklahoma City Thunder's trip to Beantown last March 16.

"I like the city a lot. It's cold but they love sports here. It's a family atmosphere I feel when I walk around the city. So yeah, I like it a lot," Durant said. He also commented on Celtics guard Marcus Smart saying that he's a "terrific competitor."

The Thunder defeated the Celtics 130-109 with "KD" registering a near triple-double with 28 points, seven rebounds and nine assists. It was his first game in Boston since November 2012 as he was plagued by injuries every time he's scheduled to visit the city.

But the question is can Danny Ainge and the Boston front office sign Durant this summer?

Yes, They Can!

According to Chris Forsberg of ESPN, the Celtics are in the right situation to sign the seven-time All-Star. He mentioned that Boston will have enough money to sign at least one superstar to a max contract if the salary cap reaches $90 million.

The Celtics have at least a $34 million guaranteed salary for next season but have decisions to make regarding Amir Johnson, Jonas Jerebko, Jared Sullinger, Evan Turner and Tyler Zeller. Besides the money, the Celtics also boast assets to attract Durant like a good young coach in Brad Stevens.

Another reason is the history of the franchise that has won 17 NBA championships. There is also the fact that they have eight picks in this July's draft that can be used to acquire talent. Last is the teamwork shown by its roster that is currently third in the Eastern Conference standings.

No, They Can't!

Despite the points made by Forsberg, Matt Burke made some counter arguments to why Durant will not be going to Boston next season. First is the possibility of re-signing a one-year deal with the Thunder. It will let him become a free agent in the summer of 2017 again where he can even get more money.

Another roadblock is the number of teams interested in Durant that include the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks. The Golden State Warriors, Washington Wizards and Miami Heat are also rumored to be in the hunt for the Thunder superstar.
