The Super Bowl only comes once a year, so it's quite an honor when a city gets to host the biggest sporting event of the year. The majority of the 48 Super Bowls have been played in New Orleans (10), Miami (10), and Pasadena (7). That means that 27 Super Bowls have been played in just three American cities.

Super Bowl 52, which will be played in February 2018, has been limited to just three cities, and a vote will be made on May 20 on which city will host the big game. Those three cities are Minneapolis, Indianapolis, and New Orleans.

Minneapolis, Minnesota

Minneapolis has only hosted the Super Bowl once, in 1992, in Super Bowl 26. That was between the Washington Redskins and Buffalo Bills. Minneapolis has three advantages to make to the NFL in regards to hosting the Super Bowl. One, the Vikings will have a new stadium coming next year which will be ready by 2018. The new stadium will be more up to date than any other stadium and fan friendly. Two, the Vikings haven't hosted the Super Bowl in more than 20 years as opposed to Indy in 2012 or New Orleans in 2013, and it's their turn. Three, the last thing the NFL wants is a team with home field advantage in the Super Bowl. It wouldn't surprise anybody if the Colts or Saints were in Super Bowl 52, but the Vikings have a slim chance.

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans has by far the most experience hosting the Super Bowl out of these three cities. New Orleans has hosted eight more Super Bowls than Indianapolis and Minneapolis combined, with the most recent one in 2012. New Orleans may be at a disadvantage because of this, however. Some will argue that New Orleans has hosted the Super Bowl enough, and it's time to spread it around. In Super Bowl 47, the lights went out at the Super Dome for about a half hour delaying the game. Owners will bring this up.

Indianapolis, Indiana

The Indianapolis Colts (like the Vikings and Saints) play in a dome stadium, so weather will not be an issue on the field. The city of Indianapolis has only hosted the Super Bowl once, in 2012, at Super Bowl 46. Indianapolis is in the same boat as Minneapolis; both are high-populated Midwestern cities that have only hosted the Super Bowl one time. Indianapolis will definitely use the inconvenient weather argument for fans against the Vikings hosting the Super Bowl. Even though the Vikings play in a dome stadium and weather and temperature will have no impact on the game, the February weather will definitely play a factor for fans attending the game.
