Disney has confirmed rumors that they will be releasing a sequel to "Mary Poppins" with actors Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emily Blunt as leads and have also revealed the film's title and release date.

According to Disney, who made an announcement on May 31, the film will be released in theaters on Dec. 25, 2018, and will be called "Mary Poppins Returns."

Emily Blunt has been confirmed as the lead of the film, playing Mary Poppins herself, and Miranda will be playing a brand new role.

The playwright confirmed the news, that he would also be starring in the film, via social media after Disney's announcement.

All that is known about Miranda's role is that his character is named Jack and he is a street lamplighter. Jack is a good friend of Mary Poppins and will aid her in helping the Banks family after a personal loss. While Miranda has appeared in small film roles before, this will be the actors biggest role to date. The film will be Blunt's second Disney film. In 2014, she appeared in "Into The Woods." The role of Mary Poppins will also reunite her with "Into The Woods" director Rob Marshall, who has been confirmed to direct "Mary Poppins Returns."
