This summer, Disney will be premiering a new animated series, "Elena of Avalor," which has been creating a lot of buzz because the main character is considered Disney's first Latina princess.

Several stars have praised the show and the promotion of diversity that the new princess, who was inspired by Latino cultures, will be bringing to television.

Actresses Gina Rodriguez and Bella Thorne both shared their excitement of the new princess on social media.

Rodriguez, whose family hails from Puerto Rico, shared news about the princess as part of her weekly "Movement Mondays" post on Instagram.

"I have so many incredible friends who have been a part of this project and together we can make sure it has a long lasting life on screen!" she captioned a photo promoting the series.

"Very excited for this project! And feeling really blessed the Latino community has a princess for our little ladies all over the globe!" she continued.

A former Disney actress, Thorne, who is part Cuban, also shared her excitement about the new Disney character on her Instagram account.

"Finally a Latina princess !!!! Oh my god I hope they make a movie for her!!! So excited !! #Latina #iamlatina #proud," she wrote.

However, the star's excitement wasn't met with the same enthusiasm. Some fans didn't understand why she would be excited about a Latina princess when she, Thorne, "looks white," while others didn't know she was Latina at all.

One fan's comment clearly got to Thorne, who decided to answer her and make her Cuban heritage clear.

"Not sure why a Native American Latina presumably of Mexican or Central American heritage has anything to do with a Cuban like Bella who is white" commented the fan.

Thorne responded with a simple, "I'm Cuban. That's why I hashtagged it."
