While most undocumented immigrants are hoping to keep their status in the United States a private matter, one Texas teen decided that her speech as valedictorian of her high school was the perfect time to reveal her own status.

Larissa Martinez, a senior at Mckinney Boyd High School, revealed that she is undocumented immigrant to her classmates and their families as she made her valedictorian speech on graduation day.

While nervous, because only about 10 people knew the truth, Martinez made the decision to tell her story.

She used the opportunity to serve as an example of what hard work and opportunity can do for someone and revealed that she is "one of the 11 million undocumented immigrants who’s living in the shadows of the United States.”

Martinez also used her speech to denounce the ideals that Donald Trump have been using in his political campaign.

"America can be great again without the construction of a wall built on hatred and prejudice," she said.

She, her sister and her mother, Deyanira Contreras, left Mexico City in 2010 to escape an abusive husband and have worked hard for a better life in the U.S., which is evident by Martinez's 4.95 GPA.

Martinez's family submitted an application for citizenship almost seven years ago and are still waiting for it to be processed.

The bright teen hopes to get into the pre-med program at Yale, where she received a full scholarship, and eventually wants to become a neurosurgeon.
