The 2013 Emmy nominations are in, and as expected, the nominees are all thrilled and surprised at their acknowledgment by the television industry. There were, however, some legitimate surprises among the familiar faces this year. You can take a look at a list of some of the nominations here.

The 65th edition of the Emmy awards, which will take place Sunday, Sept. 22, will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, and will as always feature the biggest and brightest names in the business. Among the shows once again receiving numerous awards is the highly-acclaimed comedy series Modern Family.

"I am honored and humbly surprised that this good fortune continues...I share this with the entire cast and crew of Modern Family. I'm sure it's not surprising to anyone who's ever worked on a television show, but our writers are the reason we're still in this position. I'm eternally grateful for their talent and surprising good looks," joked Modern Family's Ty Burrell.

Though Modern Family seems to be universally loved year in and year out, there was also plenty of controversy in the comedy category. Many people were shocked at the lack of recognition for Fox's series New Girl, as well as for the NBC hit show Parks and Recreation, which only received a nomination for its star Amy Poehler.

Still, there was plenty to be excited about for many of the biggest names on television. Popular shows such as Breaking Bad, 30 Rock, and American Horror Story all got extensive nominations. Then of course there was The Big Bang Theory, which continued its dominance at the Emmys, though this year one of its nominations did come with the added stress of an inadequate wardrobe.

"I am legitimately in shock and beyond honored to be nominated for the second year in a row alongside the inspirational Jim Parsons and our fantastically written show. I can't begin to express how shocked I am to be nominated with such an impressive group of women. Wow! Now I have to find a dress," said Mayim Bialik.

Perhaps one of the biggest stories among the nominations is the selection of Don Cheadle in the Best Actor In A Comedy Series category. Though Cheadle has long been regarded as an outstanding actor capable of solid comedic timing, he has yet to be formally recognized as such.

"Given all the hilarious film work I've done, from Traffic to Crash to Flight, it's nice to finally be recognized as the comic genius I am," Don Cheadle joked in a statement to ET Online. "Thank you, Academy members."

So much for a humble acceptance. Don't forget Don, this is the Emmys. So make sure to thank God, your mother, and those writers of yours that never get to see the light of day for that comedic genius.
